If you've been receiving my mailings for a while, you know that I am always thrilled when October comes around, bringing it's delightfully crisp Fall weather and colorful signs of seasonal change. Okay, maybe not to Florida - that's why I make my annual pilgrimage to New York for foliage, family and friends.

This year I'm heading north a bit earlier than usual, at the beginning rather than end of the month, because I can't wait to enjoy my favorite Autum activity, apple picking in the glorious orchards of Westchester County. My fav variety, the Macoun apple, is in season now - it's always crunchy and juicy, while managing to be sweet and tart at the same time. I'm so ready for that first flavorful bite and the many more to come! Yum!!

I'm also a big fan of hot apple cider and always treat myself to some delicious donuts to go along with the drink. That's my big exception to the healthy rule of "having a handful of nuts rather than a handful of donuts!" Sometimes the indulgence is just worth it.

I'll also be glad to see the charming decorations homeowners create to celebrate the season. Lots of pumpkins and mums are out before the spooky Halloween displays appear, and it's a colorful feast for the senses.

AUTUMN ZIGZAG WORD SEARCH

Directions: Find words from the list going left, right, up, and down – but NOT diagonally. Words can bend at a right angle, as illustrated by the highlighted word RAIN in the puzzle, which is a twist on the usual word search pattern. Every letter is used only once, and there are no unused letters in the grid.
