To SUM IT Up ...

Hi, Reader,

I'm still on a high after my recent trip to New York. Definitely one of the HIGH-lights was the amazing experience we had at 1 Vanderbilt, the dramatic new skyscraper built next door to (and accessible from) the iconic Grand Central Station. Known as The Summit, the 91st, 92nd, and 93rd floors of this remarkable building have walls of glass plus floors and ceilings of mirrors. It's dizzying and thrilling at the same time.

The views are spectacular affording a 360° panorama of the city and its surroundings - buildings, bridges, rivers, parks - so the perspective from on high is all-encompassing.

My granddaughter Lindsey and I were delighted to take it all in, and to top it off, we experienced "The Ascent" in an all-glass elevator (even the floor was see-through!) quickly taking us another 11 stories higher, almost to the clouds.

We had a surprisingly good "lunch with libations" on the 93rd floor Terrace.

And for a "bio-break" even the restrooms provided a visual treat!

As for your related word game, while I'm pretty sure most of the following areas and landmarks of New York can be seen from The Summit, they should be familiar enough without actually being there. It's up to you to fill in the missing letters and spell the iconic answers.

And if the Big City is not your scene, just scroll way down to see what you missed.

P.S. Remember, the next online experience happens on Thursday, November 12th ... hope to see you there for more "Brain-tertainment" live on Zoom!

P.S.S. Big City Answers:

1) STATUE OF LIBERTY
2) MANHATTAN
3) CENTRAL PARK
4) TIMES SQUARE
5) BATTERY PARK
6) EIFFEL TOWER
7) QUEENS
8) LITTLE ITALY
9) BROOKLYN BRIDGE
10) STATEN ISLAND

Note: The Eiffel Tower (number 6) is in Paris, France, and so doesn't belong on the list as a correct answer.

P.P.S.S. In case you wanted a bit more info about the building, here's what was on the wall next to a model of the site. Definitely a "must-see" when you go to New York.

HI, Reader, If you've been receiving my mailings for a while, you know that I am always thrilled when October comes around, bringing it's delightfully crisp Fall weather and colorful signs of seasonal change. Okay, maybe not to Florida - that's why I make my annual pilgrimage to New York for foliage, family and friends. This year I'm heading north a bit earlier than usual, at the beginning rather than end of the month, because I can't wait to enjoy my favorite Autum activity, apple picking in...
